Corpus Team
What we do
L2TReC is proud to present two continuously growing corpora of learner language, designed to enrich our understanding of second language acquisition: The Multilingual Corpus of Second Language Speech (MuSSeL) and the Corpus of Utah Dual Language Immersion (CUDLI). The MuSSeL corpus includes samples from three learning contexts—child immersion classroom, adult language classroom, and adult post-immersion—across six languages: Chinese, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. CUDLI, on the other hand, focuses exclusively on the child immersion classrooms, documenting progress in Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.
We are grateful to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) for granting us access to the data and to the following sources for funding this project: 1) Seed funding from the VP for Research and the College of Humanities at the University of Utah, 2) Language Flagship Proficiency Initiative Grant by the U.S. Department of Defense, and 3) the Language Resource Center–Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
