GOAL #1
IDENTIFY, DOCUMENT AND DISSEMINATE EFFECTIVE PEDAGOGICAL AND CURRICULAR PRACTICES FOR K-9 DLI INSTRUCTION THAT WILL IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION IN THE UNITED STATES.
- A growing trend in foreign language education nationally is Dual Language Immersion programs in which students receive instruction in two languages from the earliest grades. Utah’s well-established DLI program with 40,000 students studying in six languages provides a rich opportunity to identify and disseminate curricular and pedagogical practices that promote effective second language learning.
VIDEO LIBRARY
- Over the next four years, L2TReC will work closely with the Utah State Board of Education to develop a video library of effective teaching practices in K-9 immersion programs. L2TReC will also leverage the Multilingual Spoken Second Language (MuSSeL) learner corpus (https://l2trec.utah.edu/multi-Lingual_Speech_ Corpus.php) that it has been developing to deliver workshops and online modules for teachers to recognize and address patterns of difficulty in language learning.
